The Gospel According to...Xan Russell
Name: Xan Russell
Hometown: North Jersey
Education: Brandeis University. Majored in psychology, minored in music, theater, and social policy.
Who do you play in The Mysteries?: Opera Duet Angel
Tell us about The Mysteries: It's the Complete Works of the Bible, Abridged!
Describe The Mysteries in 3 words: Seeing is Believing
What's the wildest costume you wear in The Mysteries?: Well there's this one scene where I'm completely naked...just kidding mom, no one is naked in this play.
If you could be any character from The Bible, who would you be?: Queen Esther! Maybe we'll see more of her in the reinstallation.
Which company member most likely to have lived during Biblical times?: Alex Haynes. He is married even though he's still a teenager. That sounds about right.
Which company member is most likely to be the Messiah?: Still waiting #jewish
Most likely to hear voices in their head?: David Dabbon. He doesn't just hear voices, he creates harmony.
Who’s the most spiritual?: Jesse MacBeth. As far as I know she's the only one who actually goes to church.
On the 8th day god said _____?: And now I shall create a planet just for Xan and hereby call it Planet Xan.
Are you going to heaven or hell?: I wouldn't mind spending all of eternity cackling with Asia Kate Dillon! But I'll miss her, because obviously I'll be in Heaven.
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you?: Pride: Mostly when I'm scrubbing loincloths during intermission.
What’s the biggest inside joke at The Mysteries?: There's no higher compliment than when Ed likens your performance to some sort of retarded animal. For instance, we angels got out first acknowledgement from Ed, in the form of "Now I know what twenty retarded elephants dancing looks like." Oh, sweet validation!
What’s your favorite moment from The Mysteries?: There's this one scene where everyone in the angel chorus turns into mummies in hell, and one night I tripped over myself (part of our costume includes black ski masks with insufficient eye holes) onto another unsuspecting mummy. Luckily she didn't get hurt, but since I was already conveniently located, on top of her, she started chewing my leg. So naturally, I began to eat her arm. Now every show we are the cannibal duo. It's love.
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of The Mysteries?: Spending the last three months with such an extraordinary group of creative souls, putting together 48 world premiers, has been a religious experience for me like no other!
Why should we come see The Mysteries?: We will feed you Falafel and serenade you with gospel songs until you lose track of time, space, and what year it is! But actually.

What's the wildest costume you wear in The Mysteries?: Nothing too wild for me, just a nice sheet that happens to cover the essentials.

Are you going to heaven or hell?: Just lucky I don't have to make that call.
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you?: Any day I'm not at the show? Sloooooth.
What's the biggest inside joke at The Mysteries?: "Itsthelovehappenininhere" and probably something else I'm not thinking of.
What's your favorite moment from The Mysteries?: Way too many to count. But I don't think I've missed watching (and getting emotional at) the end of Act 2 once since tech.
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of The Mysteries?: Working with some amazing and inspiring people on one of the most engaging stories out there. But most of all, getting to host you all at the show and share some food, fun, heartbreak and community. Anyone willing to go on such a wild ride with us is truly awe-inspiring and worthy of all the sleepless nights and long hours we've put into it.
Why should we come see The Mysteries?: I'll leave that up to you, but you won't see anything like it again, so it's on you if you miss out.

Education: The Brearley School, then Vassar College '13
Who do you play in The Mysteries?: The Violin Playing Angel
Tell us about The Mysteries: It's a 6 hour bible-themed party with good food and all of your smartest best-looking friends.
Describe The Mysteries in three words: Well-sculpted abdomens
What's the wildest costume you wear in The Mysteries?: A bustier under a mummy suit
If you could be anyone from The Bible, who would you be?: Billy Porter
Which company member is most likely to actually have lived during Biblical times?: Rebeca Rad. I can definitely see someone being like "that one. that one's a prophet."
Which company member is most likely to be the Messiah?: Alice Allemano, but no one would believe her they'd just think she was being charming
Most likely to become an angel?: David Dabbon already is one
Most likely to hear voices in their head?: Ned Riseley and they all sound like Fiona Apple
Who's the most spiritual?: Kara Kaufman in that I think she is a sprite
On the 8th day god said_____: Naps! Let there be naps! Naps for all!
Are you going to heaven or hell?: Depends. Ask my mom.
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you?: Procrastination
What's the biggest inside joke at The Mysteries?: "YAAAAS"
What's your favorite moment from The Mysteries?: When we--the angels--bless the three shepherds in Bethlehem. "Blessing" in our world happens through music and touch which I love because it humanizes what has always been sort of an obscure concept to me, and I love this blessing in particular because the shepherds aren't expecting it and it's not a blessing that secretly obliges them to do God's work, die for humanity, etc -- it's just a gift. I really love it. Also in our production the shepherds are stoned, so it's both beautiful and very funny. Everyone wins.
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of The Mysteries?: All these beautiful people! Everyone is so continually wonderful and funny and kind and full of secret talents. We've spent so much time sort of hanging around in loins cloths backstage trying not to make noise so though I feel like I know everyone really I'm still meeting people. It's a very weird little family we're building. I love them.
Why should we come see The Mysteries?: Ohhhhh cause it reminds us that we're so damn lucky we're human and alive! So we should eat a good meal and kiss someone we love and have a good time. Also-- well-sculpted abdomens.

The Gospel According to...Anna Dart
Name: Anna Dart
Hometown: Eugene, Oregon
Education: BA Theater Whitman College, Maggie Flanigan Studio
Who do you play in The Mysteries?: an Angel
Tell us about The Mysteries: The Mysteries is spectacular event in an intimate space. That's what I love about it. It's a riotous, joyful, dramatic re-telling of the bible featuring 48 exciting playwrights and 54 actors, where every story is a new perspective and voice. It brims with color and sound, and even dessert. And YOU are a part of all of it.
Describe The Mysteries in three words: Epic, eccentric, sublime.
What's the wildest costume you wear in The Mysteries?: That's a tough call. Could it be the ski mask covered in strips of neon linen? Or the iridescent silver tube top that is ACTUALLY a gathered bathing suit cleverly hidden by hieroglyphic guacho pants? These are the real mysteries, my friends . . . .
If you could be anyone from The Bible, who would you be?: Hm. Perhaps Eve -- you know, before that whole awkward banished from Eden business. I don't think I'd have resisted the apple either -- but imagine living in a world without the concept of shame, even for a day -- how amazing would that be?
Which company member is most likely to actually have lived during Biblical times?: Yup, I'm gonna go with Kyle Hines, our Lazarus. I can just see him striding around a village in sandals and robes.
Which company member is most likely to be the Messiah?: Colin, our Jesus. He is so dedicated and courageous in this role. I believe him.
Most likely to become an angel?: Alex Haynes. Nicest guy you'll ever meet.
Most likely to hear voices in their head?: Kara, our killer stage manager. But she's got all those voices in line. Managing 54 actors? The woman works miracles daily.
Who's the most spiritual?: Maybe Lauren Hayes -- I once had a lovely talk with her about faith. But it depends on what you mean by spiritual.
On the 8th day god said ______: Let there be naptime.
Are you going to heaven or hell?: Heaven. But Asia Kate Dillon is such a cool Lucifer that the alternative is tempting.
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you?: Sloth. I'm the type who'd watch all of Six Feet Under in one go. See you in a week.
What's the biggest inside joke at The Mysteries?: There are so many now! Which one? Which one first? Ok, probably the way Ed, our fearless leader, says 'yes' when something works on stage. It's a sort of "Yaaaaaaaaaaasss! Weeeerk!" And then there is joy.
What's your favorite moment from The Mysteries?: There's a really lovely moment in Don Nyugen's episode between Joseph and Jesus that gets me every time. I'm in love with the whole Next Supper play -- Kate Thulin has a monologue that consistently makes me cry-laugh. I also adore blessing the shepards. And when Thomas the Apostle loses his temper. Or when Thomas the Apostle says ANYTHING. There are too many juicy moments to choose from.
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of The Mysteries?: Working with people that are so passionate about their work, and fun to play with. For real. I love watching the show every night right along with the audience - it never gets old.
Why should we come see The Mysteries?: Because it's so inclusive and fascinating! So many stories! It's like living inside a bizarre and moving dream for an entire night, with all your friends.
Hometown: Eugene, Oregon
Education: BA Theater Whitman College, Maggie Flanigan Studio

Which company member is most likely to actually have lived during Biblical times?: Rory Kulz

On the 8th day god said_____: Light it up Baby!...Bum bum bum, BUM BUM, bum bum bum...aaaahhh Louuiiee Loouuuaaaayyyy
Are you going to heaven or hell?: I'll probably shoot the shit with people in purgatory, then try and make God laugh so he will let me in.
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you?: Pride....Lawwwd knows I needa let it go.
What's the biggest inside joke at The Mysteries?: Everyone farts because we eat Falafel every night. "Make way for the tony winner...and grammy" "hey man you coming out after the show?-- Nah man I got to go to Broadway Junction"
What's your favorite moment from The Mysteries?: When all the Angels come give me some Looooooveeee
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of The Mysteries?: The ability to have met so many different people from all over the map and just share in these stories. It takes a village, and we are a full village. There are so many pieces to the puzzle, that it makes you want to give your best because in order for the machine to work well, it takes every piece doing their duty.
Why should we come see The Mysteries?: Above all you should come because of The ANGEL CHORUS. 18 members (16 female, 2 male) sing over 15 songs in the show. Each song is captivating, endearing, epic, wonderful, exciting, and gets your heart and soul moving. I sing their songs every single night backstage and after the show. You will NEVER SEE A SHOW like this. There is pure humanity in the play. I guarantee there is a line that will make you think after you leave. There are so many lines that Lucifer says that have made my head spin. Stories I have grown up hearing from church, synagogue, or relatives, or friends and here are wonderfully portrayed perceptions of the same stories that make you THINK! They make you LOVE, and they make you grateful for what we have, right at this moment. Come take a look, you won't be disappointed.

Who do you play in The Mysteries?: Angel!
Tell us about The Mysteries: It's a pretty insane show with incredible transitions and presents many of the controversial questions the Bible poses.
Describe The Mysteries in three words: making out, exposed, immersive
What's the wildest costume you wear in The Mysteries?: the mummy costume I wear while playing a lesbian heroin addict with the lovely Brittane.
If you could be anyone from The Bible, who would you be?: Mary Magdalene.
Which company member is most likely to actually have lived during Biblical times?: Matt Cox. For sure.
Which company member is most likely to be the Messiah?: Ned Rise to the top.
Most likely to become an angel?: Captain Bovee.
Most likely to hear voices in their head?: Xan. Absolutely. haha
Who's the most spiritual?: Rebecca Rad!
On the 8th day god said_____: I need to invent cookies.
Are you going to heaven or hell?: Heaven!
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you?: either envy or gluttony.
What's the biggest inside joke at The Mysteries?: Probably the Ascension. Enough said.
What's your favorite moment from The Mysteries?: It varies pretty much every night. Which is one of the great things about this show. You will absolutely find something that will make you laugh, and make you cry. I involuntarily start tearing up in multiple scenes. It has nothing to do with how religious you are, or how spiritual, its about the human condition and how powerful sacrifice can truly be. That being said, the sequence between Abraham, Hagar, Ishmael, Sarah, etc is one of my favorites.
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of The Mysteries?: Being a part of the company. Everyone is so incredibly talented, but also giving and humble. Especially being part of the Angel chorus. We all have each other's backs. Its been a really long, exhausting process, but I've never been this unfiltered with a cast in my life. I really feel supported from all ends.
Why should we come see The Mysteries?: Well, the baklava is killer. But actually, I had four pieces and couldn't move for the rest of the night. So delicious. You should come. You will absolutely leave changed. If not by the show itself, the hospitality and the atmosphere will leave an impact. There's literally nothing like it.

The Gospel According to...Kyle Hines
Name: Kyle Hines
Hometown: Ponca City, Oklahoma
Education: The Studio/New York & Oklahoma City University
Who do you play in The Mysteries?: Lazarus and Herod underling
Tell us about The Mysteries: The Mysteries is an adaptation of a 12th and 13th century grouping of morality plays from York. The plays are written by 48 amazing writers and performed over the course of the night by 50+ incredibly talented actors. This beautiful work starts from creation and moves all the way through the Bible to Judgment. It will make you cry and laugh and go, "holy crap that, shit was crazy!!!" I think it will speak to both the religious and non-religious alike, because it is coming from such a vulnerable human place - our desire to connect to something greater than ourselves - and that is something I think everyone can relate to.
Describe The Mysteries in three words: what the f**k!!!!
What's the wildest costume you wear in The Mysteries?: It would be too easy for me to say my "birthday suit," so I will say my Herod underling outfit, it is scary as Hell.
If you could be anyone from The Bible, who would you be?: I would say Elijah, it would be pretty bad ass to command bears to maul your enemies!
Which company member is most likely to actually have lived during Biblical times?: Matt Cox
Which company member is most likely to be the Messiah?: Ed Iskandar
Most likely to become an angel?: Definitely Jaspal Binning
Most likely to hear voices in their head?: AJ Ditty
Who's the most spiritual?: Jon Huggins
On the 8th day god said_____: Let there be ZELDA!!! Specifically OCARINA OF TIME!!! --- But like all gifts from God we bastardized it, and created Majora's Mask.
Are you going to heaven or hell?: I hope heaven! But who really knows?
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you?: I am too lazy to answer this question!
What's the biggest inside joke at The Mysteries?: dead babies....
What's your favorite moment from The Mysteries?: dead babies....
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of The Mysteries?: dead babies....But seriously, having the opportunity to work with some truly amazing people on some incredible writing and storytelling is just about as fulfilling and rewarding as it gets. Every night I am blown away by what we have created, and to be able to share it with the cast and crew and everyone in the audience is something that I will cherish for a very long time.

Describe The Mysteries in three words: Leap Of Faith
What's the wildest costume you wear in The Mysteries?: the non-costume...
If you could be anyone from The Bible, who would you be?: the Baptizer
Which company member is most likely to actually have lived during Biblical times?: Kyle Hines. He is strong in body and mind. And he can build things.
Which company member is most likely to be the Messiah?: Colin Waitt, you had me at hello.
Most likely to become an angel?: Kara Kaufman, our remarkable stage manager (seriously, how does she stay on top of EVERYTHING and still have the warmth of the most beautiful sunset?!)
Most likely to hear voices in their head?: Of the brilliant variety? Kate Thulin.
Who's the most spiritual?: When I am at Rebecca Rad's feet, being serenaded before my entrance, I definitely have an experience. She is something else.
On the 8th day god said_____: "Your turn."
Are you going to heaven or hell?: We're all heaven-bound.
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you?: oh Gluttony. I want it all.
What's the biggest inside joke at The Mysteries?: Anal dreadlock. (Eliza Simpson took it one step further with "Anal dreadlock when she's gone" sung to the tune of Ain't No Sunshine)
What's your favorite moment from The Mysteries?: The freedom to talk to the audience whenever we want. I need you guys. Be warned, I WILL talk to you. I may touch you.
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of The Mysteries?: That leap of faith I mentioned. To have a hand in creating something from the ground up is challenging and satisfying like nothing else. The collaboration that has gone into this project is never ending. I've worked with playwrights I've admired since high school, a Tony (and Grammy Award) winner, and a group of fearless, brilliant actors and designers. We had the faintest idea of what we were getting ourselves into, but I'm definitely a better person for saying yes to this wild ride.
Why should we come see The Mysteries?: All that hard work? It's paying off. And those parables we all know? They're presented in an exciting, accessible way that will have you forget you just sat through 6 hours of "The Bible." Many have been known to call their mothers afterward, just to say I love you.

The Gospel According to...Lauren Hayes
Name: Lauren Hayes
Hometown: Walnut Creek, CA
Education: BS in chemistry, Stanford University
Who do you play in The Mysteries?: Angel
Tell us about The Mysteries: It is an immersive evening involving dinner, dessert, 54 actors and 48 playwrights riffing on 50 biblical plays from medieval England. The evening starts with Adam and Eve and ends with the final judgment.
Describe The Mysteries in three words: Entertaining. Powerful. Thought-provoking.
What's the wildest costume you wear in The Mysteries?: A mummy costume which involves lots of strips of white fabric, a ski mask, and black-light paint.
If you could be anyone from The Bible, who would you be?: Deborah. She was a prophet, a judge, and a leader of Israel in the Old Testament. Totally inspiring.
Which company member is most likely to actually have lived during Biblical times?: Matt Cox. Just look at his impressive hair and beard! Definitely Biblical.
Which company member is most likely to be the Messiah?: It's a toss up between Matt Bovee, Kara Kaufman (our stage manager), or just the entire cast of angels. They've all saved my booty so many time in life, rehearsal, and performance.
Most likely to become an angel?: Either Tyler Gardella (who, ironically, plays beezulzebub) or David Dabbon (our music director). Both of them are so sweet, generous, and always bring cheer into the room.
Most likely to hear voices in their head?: Julia Anrather, our effervescent music captain. I'm pretty sure she'd hear gorgeous angelic voices.
Who's the most spiritual?: Rebecca Rad!
On the 8th day god said_____: Time for some fun!
Are you going to heaven or hell?: Well, heaven, I hope.
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you?: Some combination of gluttony, sloth, stress case and gym junkie.
What's the biggest inside joke at The Mysteries?: Ooooo tough call. Don't know if this counts, but I'm gonna go ahead and say anytime an actor accidentally farts on stage. I won't name any names, but it makes me laugh hysterically every time.
What's your favorite moment from The Mysteries?: I am in love with the episode of "Doubting Thomas." It's beautiful, funny, and always warms the cockles of my heart. And A.J. Ditty plays Thomas beautifully.
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of The Mysteries?: The people: the creative team, the Flea staff, the actors, the audience. I am constantly amazed by their talent, their humor, and their generosity.
Why should we come see The Mysteries?: It will be a unique experience, unlike anything you will ever see anywhere else, and it will definitely dazzle and make you laugh, cry, and think. And, just to put some icing on the cake, there's great music and delicious food!

The Gospel According to...Stephen Stout
Name: Stephen Stout
Hometown: Haddonfield, NJ
Education: NYU/Tisch
Who do you play in The Mysteries?: Peter "The Rock"/Simon Peter/that one guy who does that denying three times thing and inadvertently founds Catholicism.
Tell us about The Mysteries: The Mysteries is an epic re-imagining of the York cycle of Mystery plays as told by some of America's most spectacular playwrights and filtered through the mad-genius brain of Mr. Ed Iskandar. With dinner and dessert. And performed by a small town.
Describe The Mysteries in three words: All. The. Plays.
What's the wildest costume you wear in The Mysteries?: Probably my baptism onesie. I get off easy this go round since I had all the insane costumes in Restoration Comedy last year. It's not wild but my fisherman's hat is practically an appendage at this point. Loren Shaw is my favorite.
If you could be anyone from The Bible, who would you be?: I've been Satan twice in the past few years and God once. Both were fun/terrifying. Nice to be a flawed human this go round.
Which company member is most likely to actually have lived during Biblical times?: Kyle Hines. He is immortal. And basically a mountain.
Which company member is most likely to be the Messiah?: Do I have to jump on the Colin bandwagon? I guess I must.
Most likely to become an angel?: I have good feelings about the salvation of most of the company (then again, I don't know where the bodies are buried).
Most likely to hear voices in their head?: If you watch Sam Garber for long enough, I think you'd have suspicions.
Who's the most spiritual?: I've seen Alex Gould glowing a few times backstage but that could just mean he's irradiated.
On the 8th day god said_____: We have $35 rush tickets available at 5:30pm. You should buy one.
Are you going to heaven or hell?: Oh man...I was raised Jewish/Catholic/Mormon...so I have all sorts of conflicting feelings...and I'm in the arts...so...
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you?: Is anxiety one?
What's the biggest inside joke at The Mysteries?: It's the rare show were you can say to someone "It's going great! We cut 3 1/2 hours of play in the last week" and they don't stare at you like a crazy person.
What's your favorite moment from The Mysteries?: I don't want to spoil it but there's a bit with the Apostles toward the end that is the most exhilarating/heartbreaking 3 1/2 minutes of the entire night for me.
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of The Mysteries?: Being a part of an army of artists giving a maximalist evening of entertainment to 60 odd strangers on a nightly basis. It's an honor and a privilege to entertain/move an audience for 6 hours. Then again I'm one of the insane ones who will just sign on to whatever Ed's doing because I know it's going to be the theatrical highlight of my year. Also, I have a sweet member's only jacket so that's something.
Why should we come see The Mysteries?: You'll have an experience you won't soon forget forged by some of the best creative minds working in theater in the US. Also, the food's great and the company ain't bad either.

The Gospel According to...Sarah Keyes
Name: Sarah Keyes
Hometown: Louisville, Kentucky
Education: Fordham University Lincoln Center and Interlochen Arts Academy (with fellow angels Rebeca Rad and Tyler Gardella)
Who do you play in The Mysteries?: Angel
Tell us about The Mysteries: The Mysteries is a six-hour marathon of 48 World Premiere plays telling the entire History of Man’s Salvation from The Fall of Lucifer through and including Judgment Day, complete with music, dancing, food, and libations!
Describe The Mysteries in three words: Love, Pain, Falafel
What's the wildest costume you wear in The Mysteries?: My neon mummy bodysuit
If you could be anyone from The Bible, who would you be?: Judas
Which company member is most likely to actually have lived during Biblical times?: Colin Waitt (he may actually be the resurrected soul of Jesus Christ)
Which company member is most likely to be the Messiah?: Our stage manager Kara Kauffman- she saves us all and has the patience of a saint!
Most likely to become an angel?: Our heavenly music director David Dabbon
Most likely to hear voices in their head?: Ed Sylvanus Iskandar is in direct communion with the theater gods.
Who's the most spiritual?: Rebeca Rad is a goddess and my personal spiritual adviser.
On the 8th day god said_____: Let there be doubt! ... and unicorns
Are you going to heaven or hell?: Heaven, but Lucifer makes some convincing arguments.
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you?: Lust.
What's the biggest inside joke at The Mysteries?: Billy Porter wrote the angel choir a stunningly gorgeous gospel song, but when we got the sheet music, we learned the song an octave higher than Billy Porter intended. Our voices were screlting to the stratosphere.
What's your favorite moment from The Mysteries?: My favorite moment of the show is when all the angels give Jesus a sponge bath offstage after a gory crucifixion scene to prepare him for his resurrection. I imagine this is exactly what actually happened in heaven.
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of The Mysteries?: The Mysteries preaches that it is impossible to love too much, even in the face of pain and doubt. This entire experience for me has been a mediation on love. This show could not happen without the zealous passion of our ensemble and creative team that goes beyond logic. I am humbled and inspired by the sacrifices this ensemble has made to make this show a living, breathing reality, but they do so with a profound sense of generosity for one another and for the audience. Ed Sylvanus Iskandar directs from a place of total hospitality, and he strives to make this show a positive and lasting experience for all to share in. We are building a community together, and the foundation is love.
Why should we come see The Mysteries?: We can promise that you have never seen anything like this. Come see the show, and join us for a beer after. We cannot wait to meet you.

The Gospel According to...Tara Pacheco
Name: Tara Pacheco
Hometown: Queens, NYC
Education: I went to Columbia University and got BAs in Theater and Psychology
Who do you play in The Mysteries?: I play Noah's Wife, Debbie, and Pontius Pilate's brilliant wife Claudia.
Tell us about The Mysteries: It's Biblical but it's not necessarily religious. The show takes these epic stories that we're all (on some level) familiar with and reframes them in a beautifully human way. They become just strange enough that we have to actively listen and critically engage with them. I think everyone leaves the show with a deeper since of faith - in theater, God, humanity.
Describe The Mysteries in three words: Episodic biblical realness
What's the wildest costume you wear in The Mysteries?: **Spoilers** I spend about 15 minutes caking on some pretty elaborate geisha make up for Yussef El Guindi's episode "The Conspiracy." Yeah...how's that for wild.
If you could be anyone from The Bible, who would you be?: I went to 10 years of Catholic school and I've always thought the man crucified next to Jesus was a pretty amazing character. They have a lovely chat, become friends, and just before he dies he gets told he'll go to heaven.
Which company member is most likely to actually have lived during Biblical times?: Kyle Hines. He can build things, and he knows natural remedies, and he's strong.
Which company member is most likely to be the Messiah?: I was having a rough time one day and while on stage in the group Baptism scene Colin Waitt smiled at me and blessed me and I just bust into tears. So I'm thinking that makes him the Messiah...right?
Most likely to become an angel?: Dominique Brillon
Most likely to hear voices in their head?: Peter Sansbury, I've seen his pre-show ritual for our Noah scene.
Who's the most spiritual?: Rebecca Rad.
On the 8th day god said_____: This might be overkill
Are you going to heaven or hell?: I don't think it's that literal. God put's it really nicely in a scene with Adam and Eve in our show: "Only want the things you have. I can have anything and everything. Believe me...it’s Hell."
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you?: On my days off I am all about Sloth.
What's the biggest inside joke at The Mysteries?: Ed's notes.
What's your favorite moment from The Mysteries?: The angel's music in general and Addie and her base guitar in particular.
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of The Mysteries?: It's actor boot camp. I joke with my friends that I decided not to do grad school this year to get some rest but the universe sent The Mysteries my way instead. Working on this show you really have to stay sharp for 6 hours. It's exhausting but it wouldn't be rewarding otherwise. Many of us have been working on the show for over 4 months and in this process you learn a lot about your limits and how they're much further than you think.
Why should we come see The Mysteries?: All the work, energy, and effort that went into making this show was done for the joy of getting to share it with you. And there will never be anything like it again. Be a part of this magic.

The Gospel According to...Jessica Cannizzaro
Name: Jessica Cannizzaro
Hometown: New York City
Education: BA with high honors in Theater and Political Science, Swarthmore College
(Other education: British American Drama Academy; Bronx High School of Science)
Who do you play in The Mysteries?: A ukulele-strumming member of everyone's favorite singing, dancing, and general holiness-emitting Choir of Angels.
Tell us about The Mysteries: The Mysteries is an adventure. It is a myriad of 48 different universes that co-exist in a single night in a single room in a single city on Earth. It is a time capsule buried under the weight of centuries and stuffed with stories that you thought you knew, once upon a time, maybe. It is a beautiful dream born from the mind of one and breathed into existence from the mouths of many.
Describe The Mysteries in three words: Year’s best party!
What's the wildest costume you wear in The Mysteries?: The angels in our production have shed the classic robes/wings/halos look for an edgier wardrobe of punk rock chestnuts. A lot of safety pins and studs are involved. They have me sporting an awesome double-bun hairstyle, which makes me feel like I’m Mel B (and nothing gets you more pumped for a show than feeling like a Spice Girl).
If you could be anyone from The Bible, who would you be?: I’ve always felt a certain affinity for that crazy cool giant-slayer David. He’s helped me work through a very deep-seated Napoleon complex.
Which company member is most likely to actually have lived during Biblical times?: I think Justin Ahdoot is most likely to accidentally invent a time machine and use it to sneak into the last supper purely to get in on all the delicious noshing. Does that count?
Which company member is most likely to be the Messiah?: Colin Waitt, who has not yet failed to make me weep like a baby onstage every night. I would follow him anywhere.
Most likely to become an angel?: David Dabbon, God bless his soul. The man is a saint. Every time he smiles, an angel gets its wings.
Most likely to hear voices in their head?: Xan Russell has a party going on in her head all the time, and I’m just looking for a way to snag an invitation.
Who's the most spiritual?: Ned “Rise To The Top” Riseley is the spiritual glue that binds the angels together. Look for his new spiritual fusion restaurant to open in Tribeca in the near future!
On the 8th day god said_____: This feels excessive; let’s go back to seven.
Are you going to heaven or hell?: I’ll go wherever I can get a decent cup of coffee, access to a sweeping library, and an unlimited daily crossword subscription (God, if you’re trolling the internet, reading this interview, and taking requests, know that my official preference is for the former).
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you?: Oh, gluttony for sure. Every day at The Mysteries we serve the audience a delicious dinner, and then we bring down the leftovers to share as a cast. Which means we stuff as much amazing food into our faces as possible before going back onstage. I apologize in advance if I smell like falafel during Act II.
What's the biggest inside joke at The Mysteries?: Screlt like a llama, Ned. Like a LLAMA.
What's your favorite moment from The Mysteries?: I melt every time we all pick up our instruments and play, sing, and dance together towards the end of the night. Ultimately, this show is a celebration of life. It is a glorious love poem to the chaos, messiness, and endless beauty of humanity. And when we’re all sharing music and laughter with each other onstage, I feel every single ounce of that love emanating throughout the theater.
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of The Mysteries?: The folks in this show, with their endless talent, good cheer, and creativity, have made my spirit feel capable of any adventure. They have taught me to fear less, mistake more, and in the end, gaze directly into the infinity that surrounds every possibility. They move me like a warm mug of earl grey tea, or jeans that fit you perfectly, or a good book that you love to re-read even though you can recite it. Getting to call such a beautiful community my home for the past few months? I feel lucky beyond belief.
Why should we come see The Mysteries?: Come for Billy Porter’s soul-shaking gospel music, for the punk band of angels, for the kissing, for falafel and hummus, for the excitement of hearing what witticisms Ed Iskandar will create next, for 350 different costumes, for the coolest group of apostles this side of 14th street, for the party of the year, for Jesus (nicest guy you’ll ever meet). Stay for the stories. The incredible stories!

The Mysteries According to...A.J. Ditty
Name: A.J. Ditty
Hometown: Escondido, California: Home of the San Diego Zoo Safari Adventure and crippling depression.
Education: BFA NYU
Who do you play in The Mysteries?: The Doctor and Thomas
Tell us about The Mysteries: Had you pitched the concept of The Mysteries to me a year ago, I would have called you crazy. Had you pitched to me in the 1600s, I would have called you a witch and thrown leeches at you. Had you had pitched it to me in the 1300s, I would have pointed out that there's already such a festival happening in York and you should totally check it out because what the blacksmiths are doing with the Nativity is simply MIND-BLOWING. Also, do you have any penicillin? The next 700 years are gonna go a LOT easier if you have some penicillin.
Describe The Mysteries in three words: Beautifully orchestrated chaos.
What's the wildest costume you wear in The Mysteries?: I'm particularly fond of my striped scarf for Thomas. My whole idea is that Thomas believes in times of great chaos he can use it as active camouflage. Unfortunately for Thomas, it is terrible camouflage.
If you could be anyone from The Bible, who would you be?: Probably Jonah. I feel like I'd be the kind of guy to run away from his problems and get eaten by a whale.
Which company member is most likely to actually have lived during Biblical times?: Jon Huggins, hands down. Man knows how to DO stuff.
Which company member is most likely to be the Messiah?: Well, let me put it this way: there is no evidence that Matthew Jeffers isn't God. I mean, the guy helped the Baltimore Ravens win the Super Bowl. HOW MANY FOOTBALL TEAMS HAVE YOU WIZARDED INTO WINNING THE SUPER BOWL?!
Most likely to become an angel?: Whoever's been leaving feathers all over the dressing room. Either that, or someone is slowly turning into a giant, sentient pigeon. IS IT YOU, MATTHEW BOVEE?! DON'T YOU TRICK ME WITH YOUR PIGEON MAGIC!
Most likely to hear voices in their head?: Gollum. Dude's got issues.
Who's the most spiritual?: I think we all enjoy our fair share of spirits.
On the 8th day god said_____: I FORGOT THE GIANT SENTIENT PIGEONS.
Are you going to heaven or hell?: I am going to Bouncy Castle Heaven, where literally every surface has the elasticity and bouncibility of a bouncy castle. It will be just like when I was eight except I won't throw up and people will like me.
Which of the Seven Deadly Sins are you?: THERE ARE SEVEN?!
What's the biggest inside joke at The Mysteries?: Most of the jokes we tell are inside jokes. Except when we're outside. Then they're outside jokes.
What's your favorite moment from The Mysteries?: I'm particularly fond of the Act II finale. I weep like an uncontrollable child. I'm also terribly enamored with the Doubting Thomas episode. I'm not sure why. It's probably the scarf. I REALLY like that scarf.
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of The Mysteries?: Having the chance to work with the best actors, writers, and directors in New York City; getting to put up fifty brand new plays that show such variety and poetry that it's amazing that they all flow together and complement each other so beautifully; being pushed to be the absolute best actor I can be night after night because I am surrounded by such extreme talent that if I'm not at my best I will be devoured by their awesomeness; and getting to wear my striped scarf. SERIOUSLY YOU GUYS THIS SCARF IS AMAZING.
Why should we come see The Mysteries?: BECAUSE OH MY GOD ARE YOU KIDDING ME WE DO THE ENTIRE BIBLE IN SIX HOURS AND WE FEED YOU DELICIOUS THINGS AND CHAT WITH YOU LIKE HUMANS AND WILL CHANGE THE ENTIRE TRAJECTORY OF YOUR LIFE.

Also, we have baklava.
