Punk or Provocateur with...Max Hunter

Name: Max Hunter

Hometown: Bedford, NY

Tell us about The Roaring Girl: A bawdy and brash Jacobean comedy that deals with surprisingly relevant social themes; a commentary on sex and class in society, intertwined around a classic love story.

Describe The Roaring Girl in 3 words: Bucking the trend.

Who do you play in The Roaring Girl?: Ralph Trapdoor

Describe your character in 3 words: A discharged soldier who seeks multiple employers as a financial means to an end, as well as endless amusement. Talks the talk but never cares to walk the walk. (Editor’s note: This is not 3 words, but Ralph Trapdoor is a chronic over-talker, so it feels appropriate to leave it…)

Which company member is most likely to be a roaring boy or girl?: Malloree

Most likely to get in a brawl?: Rebeca

Who’s the fanciest?: Sam

What is the best thing about being a part of The Roaring Girl?: The cast.

What is your favorite moment in The Roaring Girl?: The intersectionality of various plot points, converging on Trapdoor and Gull pretending to be foreign homeless soldiers begging on the streets.

Why The Roaring Girl now?: The play provides a historical social perspective on gender and sexual fluidity and makes the argument for producing Jacobean plays, despite being overshadowed by Shakespeare as a pseudo-contemporary.

Punk or Provocateur?: Provocateur.

Have you ever performed in rep before? What are the challenges/struggles?: I have not performed in rep, but welcome the opportunity!

What are you most excited to see in the other play?: Plays with music are the shit, and I'm always excited to discover how authors create new works with an eye to both drama and music (outside the prototypical musical theatre structure).

Why should we come see Punks and Provocateurs?: Where else does the opportunity presents itself in New York to experience classical and new texts - both engaging and exciting to contemporary audiences? Additionally, you may discover a new actor or actress ;)
