Spotlight On...Clint Tate

Name: Clint Tate

Hometown: Columbia, South Carolina

Education: University of North Carolina School of the Arts

Select Credits: (Theatre): Robbed written and directed by Max Stampa-Brown, The Winter's Tale by Bill Shakespeare directed by Gus Kaikkonen, The Parable Conference at BAM directed by Pablo Helguera; (Film): “Remy” directed by Andreas Guzman, “The Santa Con” by Melissa Joan Hart

Why theater?: Well my family has always been involved in the arts. My father is an architect and a painter and my two brothers are actors and directors so I've been involved with making short movies and skits since I was a kid.  But lately I've been asking myself this question a lot, the answer is constantly changing, but right now, I love theatre and acting because I get to explore parts of myself that I wouldn't normally encounter.  I get to be vulnerable and open with other humans.  Theatre is a shared experience between a group of people; it's a living, breathing thing.

Who do you play in Last Night at The Carmine?: I played James, the head bartender at the The Carmine.

Tell us about Last Night at The Carmine: It’s a play about a wonderful building in NYC that is being closed after years of existing. Every scene in the play tells a unique story of the people who either live in the building or frequent the bar on the ground floor.

What is it like being a part of Last Night at The Carmine?: It’s great! Caroline Franklin is a fantastic director and my scene partner is a blast to work with.

What kind of theater speaks to you? What or who inspires you as an artist?: I don't have a type of theatre that speaks to me really. I would say that good theatre inspires me no matter what genre. As long as it's truthful and well produced.

Any roles you’re dying to play?: Oh man, I have a long list...but here are a few: The Gentleman Caller from Glass Menagerie, Iago from Othello, Chris from All My Sons, and James Bond.

What’s your favorite showtune?: I don't have one.

If you could work with anyone you’ve yet to work with, who would it be?: Oh man, ok I'm going big with this one: Martin Scorsese, Sam Mendes, Natalie Portman, Margot Robbie, Christopher Nolan, Ryan Gosling, and Steven McQueen.

Who would play you in a movie about yourself and what would it be called?: That’s a difficult question....let’s see..."Am I Doing This Right?" Directed by Steve McQueen starring me of course.

If you could go back in time and see any play or musical you missed, what would it be?: West Side Story

What show have you recommended to your friends?: Hand of God, The Glass Menagerie, Fuerza Bruta

What’s your biggest guilty pleasure?: Rocking out to “Bad Blood” by Taylor Swift

What’s up next?: My brother, Adam Tate, is currently writing and producing a web series that I'm starring in called "Public Health" and we are set to start shooting in mid October. I don't want to give to much away but it's very dark and funny and very "Louie-esque"
